Waving to the Storm

As Hurricane Arthur approaches we prepare for tension filled days of rough surf with surfers reveling.  I admire the agility of these people as they face the strength of the waves, but I do not admire them.  They seem to me to be, either disrespectful of the force of the waves or ignorant of it.  As they spend much of their time practicing they must be significantly more aware of it than I, so why do they do it?  Is it the perceived mastery of nature or the joy of the run? They place the guards at terrible risk, but the store owners love them.  Many love to watch them as well.  I do not. I want to see the incredible power of the sea unmarred by the blot of whoopee, thrill seekers.  Perhaps I am merely a jealous clumsy person, but they do invade my awe of the storm and I hate that interference.

May they be safe regardless, as may all who face storms.

Indeed, I've always thought those folks were foolish, but they brought you back to the page :-)
